ah sorry I had no idea you wanted to know about manga… manga is a japanese term it is in original written 漫画、it refers to the way japanese draw with feather and ink and is a term used for japanese black and white comics…
here are some examples from famous mangaka (this is the term for the people who draw manga)

there are of course styles with the manga style, that depends on a multitude of aspects

thank you… maybe it will be of interest to you, that this art is very old. In the old days there were ink paintings on wood and bamboopaper that were sold on the markets in japanese, mostly sights, famous people and pornography. From that developed the stories which consisted of several pictures that told a story, which was used on carpets before in the old tempels… the further development lead to whole books that consisted of short stories or novels drawn in this way… manga were born so to say, they are bestsellers on the japanese market… japanese people read more manga than anything else…

Again thank you for this additional information. If, by bamboo paper you mean those very thin slats of bamboo laced together with string, I have owned some and used them as wall hangings, I had thought they were drawn with a very thin brush. The string lacings broke and I threw them out. Sorry now that I did.

yes, those or the pressed paper, japanese used rice, or bamboo to make paper… I think there was also a third base but I can’t recall it right now

Long ago I went to art school in Los Angeles and sometimes drew on rice paper. My good drawings on rice paper were very rare and I sold them. But somewhere here there is an old suitcase full of failed drawing. I used a heavily loaded pen and it would catch on the paper and make a splash. I saved the failed ones to practice on until I could be more successful at drawing on rice paper.

rice paper is difficult… I think it sucks up the ink in a different way than western paper…that sounds great, art schools are very expensive. I simply started writing and drawing at an early age, my parents and people I knew always brought me new stuff to try out…. I started calligraphy when I was 9… I also do oil, aquarell, ink, pencil, acryl, coloured pencil, too… I started sculpture as well… It is great to sell one owns stuff… I recently sold some sketches of someone who asked me to sketch them… Selling would be a good idea some time because all these paintings, pictures, drawings and stuff starts to take up soooo much room

I was fortunate in getting a scholarship. I know now that the paper is meant for brush or feather. The quill pin was a mistake on my part. When I realized that I am not wealthy and will have to make my living expenses I gave up on art and switched to journalism. At least there I had a weekly pay check.

Yeah I was accepted at an art academy put couldn’t go there the fee was double the univeristy fee… I havent given up yet on trying to make something out of my art though… I will keep on trying maybe I will make it… I do understand the need for the weekly pay check though…

I wish you luck. I see much in your art. and you can make it. There is some money in art now. I am going to write a ranting blog about art. Don’t read it. it is no longer true, but it was the hard facts I had to face as an art student.

Thank you. I hope I will manage but the start is the difficult thing. Basically it is all about getting a name but I want my art to get famous not me which is really really difficult. A ranting blog really – how about a blog with your own art? I think this place needs more art

“Basically it is all about getting a name but I want my art to get famous not me…” That is exactly the problem. It is about self promotion, That is the name of the game. I refused to let it become that.
My art is now only an occasional hobby. A dabble. I just do it for experiments. I’ll think about it and maybe publish one or two.

Yes, I know the play with the media is all it is unless one has money than everything is easy and one can just pay people for making one’s art famous. Just like with everything else, money rules, I don’t like that at all. I think it is basically a problem of society how easily people are influenced by someone who tells them this or that is popular, is worth recognising. I still hope that some people will just love my art and decide they must have this or that because it speaks to them.
I would really be interested to see what your art if you like to share that is, if you don’t feel like ahring anymore I don’t want to push youinto that direction, I know there is a time for everything in life after all
